TRAFFIC OF THE STAGE TOURING
NORTHANGER ABBEY
by JANE AUSTEN Adapted by JOHN COOPER
Northanger Abbey is the most buoyant and the most youthful of Jane Austen’s works and a wonderful parody on eighteenth century Gothic novels. When young Catherine Morland ventures into the pleasure arenas of fashionable Bath society with her pretty and flirtatious young friend, Isabella Thorpe, she attracts the attention of the eligible Henry Tilney, and his domineering father, General Tilney. As the story moves to rural Gloucestershire to the secluded Northanger Abbey, Catherine is enmeshed in a mystery, where she must learn the difference between fiction and reality, and between false and true friendship.
